Mel Buschman, Ed. D - Football 1939, Track and Field 1940 - 1943

Mel Buschman attended Michigan State University in 1939 - 1943, and
was a two sport athlete, as a member of the football team in 1939 and
the men's track and field team in 1940 - 1943.
In 1943, he was the "High point man" for MSU. Buschman was a multi
event competitor for MSU, including the decathlon. WWII cut Mel's
athletics career short, he missed out on the 1944 Olympics, as they
were cancelled due to the war. So rather than participating on the US
Olympic Team in Italy, he was on the US Armed Forces team fighting
for our freedom. He was wounded three times in WWII, receiving the
Purple Heart.
At age 79, Buschman competed in the World Track and Field
Championships, placing 5th in the Decathlon!
Mel currently resides in East Lansing, MI. Buschman is a member of
two Halls of Fame for senior athletes. Mel Buschman is an interim
Board Director of the MSU Finish Line Club.
