Eric Zemper, Ph.D, XC/Track 1962-1967 - Interim Board President
Bio
Eric Zemper is the current interim Board President of the MSU Finish Line Club.  He ran
cross country and was a distance runner on the track team for MSU in 1962 - 1967.  He
was a member of Big Ten championship teams in both sports, and held several MSU
and course records, including the Ralph Young Field record for the mile run.

Zemper returned to MSU following military service to earn masters and doctoral
degrees, and was a member of the faculty in the medical schools at MSU.  During this
period he also filled in as the coach of the MSU women's cross country team, which
finished 10th at the national championships, and distance coach for the women's track
team in 1978-1979.  Primarily a medical researcher, Zemper has been research
director for the NCAA, the director of a sports medicine research institute at the
University of Oregon, and owned a sports medicine research and consulting company.  
Currently he is a research professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation at the University of Michigan medical School.  

An active Masters competitor until recently, with several age group national mile
championships, he continues to run regularly.  Zemper also has been very active in
officiating track and field, being the head starter for many NCAA and USATF national
championships, and the referee for several Big Ten championships.  He was selected
to work as a track official in both the 1984 and 1996 Olympic Games, and currently is an
International Technical Official for the International Association of Athletics Federations,
, one of three such officials from the US and one of 49 in the world.
